This crispy sticky tofu will have everyone raving about tofu! It features perfectly crispy pieces coated in a deliciously sweet glaze—yum!

Tofu is one of those ingredients that people either adore or avoid. Personally, I love it! It’s a fantastic plant-based protein that can be prepared in countless ways. Since it has a mild flavor, you can season it to suit any culinary style.

This sweet sticky tofu can be whipped up in under 15 minutes and is bursting with flavor! Serve it alongside basmati rice and veggies for a complete meal, toss it with noodles, or simply enjoy it on its own with chopsticks.

Some of my favorite ways to use tofu include crumbling it into Rice Paper Dumplings or adding it to a warm, comforting Thai Yellow Curry. 

This recipe also makes for a fun and tasty appetizer to share. Trust me, this will become your new favorite way to enjoy tofu!

INGREDIENTS

  • 11 oz / 300 g extra-firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, grated
  • ½ tablespoon red pepper flakes (or more for extra heat)
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch (only 1 tablespoon for the marinade)
  • 3-4 tablespoons water
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • Garnish: sesame seeds or chopped green onions

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Prepare the Tofu: Drain and press the tofu using a tofu press or by wrapping it in a clean tea towel and placing something heavy on top to remove excess moisture.
  • Make the Marinade: In a small bowl or ramekin, combine the sweet soy sauce, rice vinegar, grated garlic, and red pepper flakes. Add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 3 tablespoons of water, then stir or whisk until well combined.
  • Coat the Tofu: Slice the pressed tofu into triangles or cubes and coat them in the remaining cornstarch.
  • Cook the Tofu: Heat the oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add the tofu pieces in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch. Pan-fry for a few minutes on each side until they are golden and crispy.
  • Add the Marinade: Pour the marinade into the pan; it will bubble up quickly. Immediately turn all the tofu pieces to coat them evenly on both sides, then serve on a dish right away.
  • Garnish and Enjoy: Sprinkle with sesame seeds or chopped green onions and enjoy your Crispy Sticky Tofu!
