These crispy oven-baked chicken wings are seasoned to perfection and then generously coated in BBQ sauce, making them an ideal appetizer or an easy weeknight meal!
They couldn’t be simpler to make. Just season the wings, pop them in the oven, and let them cook until crispy. I love my chicken wings with an ultra-crispy skin, so I cook them for at least 30 minutes on each side. This brings the total cooking time to at least one hour, or longer, for that perfect crunch.
In the last 20 minutes, you can brush on your favorite BBQ sauce, or you can enjoy them plain—they’re delicious either way! When I prepare these for dinner, I typically make half with BBQ sauce and leave the other half without.
WHAT KIND OF CHICKEN SHOULD I USE FOR BAKED BBQ CHICKEN WINGS?
For baked BBQ chicken wings, I prefer using the larger wings that come in family packs from the supermarket. However, any bone-in chicken can work well with this cooking method. You can also try drumsticks or chicken thighs, cooked in the same way. Just remember to check the internal temperature before eating; it should reach 165 degrees F.
DOES IT MATTER WHAT KIND OF BAKING SHEET I USE?
Yes, it does! Make sure to use a baking sheet that is large enough to hold all the chicken. It’s crucial that the pan has sides or a lip to prevent melted butter from spilling over into your oven. You can see in the pictures below the type of pan I use for best results.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 stick of butter
- 10-20 chicken wings
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 cup to 1 cup BBQ sauce
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Place the stick of butter on a baking sheet with sides and melt it in the oven while it preheats.
- Once the butter is melted, carefully remove the pan from the oven and arrange all the chicken wings on the pan. Season one side with salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Bake the wings for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, take the wings out, flip them over, and season the other side. Return them to the oven for another 30 minutes.
- During the last 20 minutes of cooking, slather on your BBQ sauce.
- Continue to cook until the internal temperature of the wings reaches 165°F (74°C). Enjoy your deliciously crispy BBQ chicken wings!
