INGREDIENTS
- Flour tortillas (8-inch for taco size or 10-inch for burrito size)
- 2 oven-safe bowls (stainless steel recommended)
- Avocado oil spray
INSTRUCTIONS
- Gather Ingredients: Collect your flour tortillas, avocado oil spray, and oven-safe bowls for shaping the tortilla bowls.
- Choose Your Bowl Sizes:
- For 8-inch taco-sized tortillas, use a 6-inch diameter stainless steel bowl as the outer bowl and a 3-inch diameter glass Pyrex bowl as the inner bowl. The inner bowl prevents air bubbles from forming in the center of the tortilla.
- For 10-inch burrito-sized tortillas, use an 8-inch diameter stainless steel bowl as the outer bowl and a 6-inch diameter stainless steel bowl as the inner bowl. A larger air fryer (5+ quart) is needed for this size.
- Prep:
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (about 3 minutes).
- Lay one flour tortilla on a cutting board and lightly spray it with avocado oil.
- Place the tortilla, oil side down, into the large outer bowl and press it down to form the bowl shape. Lightly spray the top of the tortilla with oil again, then place the inner bowl on top.
- Cook:
- Place the tortilla bowl setup in the air fryer and cook at 350°F for 5 minutes to shape the bowl.
- After 5 minutes, use tongs to carefully remove the outer bowl, leaving the inner bowl in place. Continue air frying at 350°F for an additional 3-4 minutes to brown the outside.
- If you prefer additional browning inside the bowl, remove the inner bowl, flip the tortilla bowl over, and air fry for 1-2 minutes, watching closely for your desired crispness.
- Serve:
- Tortilla bowls can be made a few hours ahead and left out until serving. Fill with your favorite taco salad ingredients such as mixed greens, seasoned ground meat, avocado, tomatoes, salsa, and cheese. Alternatively, you can use a southwest-style taco kit with your choice of protein.
